Surface type distinguishes among unpaved, bituminous, and concrete surfaces, as well as overlay configurations, providing key data for assessing pavement condition, structural integrity, and long-term performance. <\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN>Surface type is a full-extent item for the National Highway System (NHS) and must be verified through visual inspection and construction records. Unpaved segments on the NHS are extremely rare and should be confirmed. The dataset is updated annually as part of ITD\u2019s Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) submittal to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). <\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN STYLE=\"font-weight:bold;\">These are current \"working\" records.
