The Idaho Transportation Department's (ITD) Roads and Highways Road Network Linear Referencing System (LRS) HPMS through lanes event polyline feature class represents the number of lanes designated for through traffic movement in the inventory direction. Through lanes exclude auxiliary, turning, and parking lanes not intended for continuous travel.
Associated attributes (through lanes source, ascending lanes, and descending lanes) provide supporting context for the origin of the data and direction-specific lane counts on grades.
The dataset is used to evaluate roadway capacity, determine performance metrics, and support investment modeling. Data are reviewed and updated annually as part of ITD’s Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) submittal to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
